Black Widow is one of the key characters in Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the character appeared as a support in many Marvel movies, she has yet to have her own standalone film – but all that is about to change.
For years fans has been asking Marvel for a “Black Widow” solo movie, and it looks like their wish will soon be granted as the studio has finally shortlisted three female directors from over 65 candidates to helm the potential movie.
According to Deadline, the three female directors are Cate Shoreland (“Lore”, “Berlin Syndrome”), Amma Asante (“A Way of Life”, “Belle”), and Maggie Betts (“The Carrier”, “Novitiate”), and all of them have already met with Marvel’s president Kevin Feige and Scarlett Johansson.
Back in 2017, Johansson said that the studio are waiting for the right time to make the movie.
“I’ve talked to Kevin Feige about it. We’re creatively really compatible. I think we both agree that the character is right for a standalone, it’s just a case of timing at this point for both Marvel and myself. Marvel has a really huge roster. They’re looking four years ahead. I also have a lot of things that I want to do. If I did it, I would dedicate myself completely to making it amazing. It would have to be the best version that movie could possibly be. Otherwise, I would never do it.”
Though Marvel has yet to release an official confirmation, it is certain that progress is being made considering that the studio has already appointed Jac Schaeffer to pen the script and Maria Djurkovic to be the production designer.
Filming production of “Black Widow” will reportedly begin next year.
