Cleanliness is close to godliness, or so the saying goes. Yet, not every eatery holds this standard. As it turns out, this includes the Marrybrown branch in Johor. And unfortunately, that has led to some dire consequences.

Just recently, the branch of Marrybrown in Today’s Market, Masai was ordered to close temporarily after it was discovered the restaurant had poor hygiene standards. The notice was shared online a few days ago, leading to quite a buzz.

Reportedly, an inspection had been carried out in the restaurant on 22nd February by personnel belonging to the Johor Bahru District Health Department. Unfortunately, the inspection showed that they were not up to code in terms of cleanliness and hygiene.

The store was reportedly messy and dirty. Additionally, the staff of Marrybrown allegedly could not prove they had attended cleaning and safe food handling courses. The lack of training supposedly contributed to the restaurant’s hygiene issues.

“The authorities have instructed the management of the fast food restaurant to close operations for 14 days to carry out immediate cleaning. All employees are also required to take food handling courses,” Johor Health director Dr Mohtar Pungut reportedly stated.

The restaurant will be able to resume operations by 8th March. However, the incident has prompted authorities to warn others in the food and beverage industry to comply with the Food Act 1983. Violators will reportedly be ordered to close and will be fined under the provision.

Well, in our own interest, we as customers should definitely be aware of the places we eat at. If it doesn’t meet our cleanliness standards, we do have the right to leave. But, hopefully the Marrybrown’s in Johor will be able to reopen soon, cleaner and better than before.
