One of the most anticipated moments in Mandopop this year is fast approaching! After much teasing, global superstar Jay Chou (周杰倫) announced his 16th studio album, “太陽之子 (Children of the Sun)”, which is set for release on 25th March 2026 (Wednesday) across all digital platforms worldwide.
The announcement follows the surprise release of the first teaser, which immediately sparked excitement among fans, who have been actively decoding visual clues and speculating about the new music. Marking his first full-length album in over three years, the project brings together 12 brand-new songs, along with a special bonus track, “Christmas Star”, for a total of 13 tracks.

The album’s title track, “Children of the Sun”, will be accompanied by a nearly seven-minute cinematic music video, featuring a blend of striking visuals, animation and high-end post-production. The video will have its global premiere in theatres on 24th March 2026 (Tuesday), where media and fans will be invited to experience the project ahead of the official album release.
The title “Children of the Sun” carries a personal story. The phrase was originally coined by legendary singer Jacky Cheung (張學友), who gave Jay the nickname during his 2023 concerts in Hong Kong. Despite persistent rain in the days leading up to the shows, the weather would clear just before each performance. Cheung later sent Jay a handwritten note along with mangoes labelled “Children of the Sun,” playfully recognising his seemingly lucky streak. Jay later shared that the gesture “brought sunshine to his heart,” and jokingly said he would “claim the title.” The phrase has now become the name of his new album, symbolising positivity, energy and creative vitality.

In the lead-up to the release, a series of daily teasers will be unveiled from 18th March (Wednesday) to 23rd March 2026 (Monday), offering a glimpse into the album’s sonic and visual world. Each track has been conceived as a distinct artistic expression, with Jay exploring new vocal textures and styles to capture different shades of “sunlight” — from warmth and introspection to intensity and movement.
The album artwork and music video were filmed at Chapelle Sainte-Jeanne-d’Arc in Paris, which also serves as a key setting for the MV. The production team meticulously recreated 19th-century set design to match the narrative atmosphere, transforming the location into a dramatic visual environment. Shot at night, the production deployed nine cranes for large-scale exterior lighting, illuminating the church’s stained glass to create a dark, mysterious and cinematic tone.
In recent months, Jay has been sharing updates with fans on social media and reflecting on the creative process behind the album. “Just because my last album was in 2022 doesn’t mean I spent three or four years writing this one,” he said. “I slowed down my pace of life and let music come naturally — writing when inspiration came, recording when I had time, and filming when possible. Ironically, the most productive period was after my tour ended.” He added with a laugh, “If I didn’t tour, play basketball, or wait for lyrics from Vincent Fang, maybe I could finish an album in a month.” Now, with the project complete, he summed it up: “The best part is… It’s finally here.”
“Children of the Sun” will be released worldwide on 25th March 2026 (Wednesday) across all digital platforms, followed by a worldwide physical release on 10th April 2026 (Friday). Jay Chou is a long-standing partner of Universal Music Group, with UMG supporting the international distribution and promotion of his music.
