Having your money stolen is possibly one of the worse things that can happen, especially when it’s a large sum. Many have lost their money to scams, armed robbery, or even had their accounts hacked. Having said that, the most frustrating way to lose your money is due to your own carelessness.

That’s exactly what happened to this gentleman when his bag filled with RM60k cash fell off his vehicle and scattered all over the main road. Needless to say, it was a nightmare unfolding before his eyes when it happened.

Almost a week ago, lots of Malaysian Ringgit notes were seen scattered on the road from Jalan Kota Bharu heading towards Kuala Terengganu. According to a report by Bernama on Friday (14th July), a 24-year-old barber named Wan Ibrahim had accidentally left his bag, which was filled with his RM60k savings, on top of the car’s boot which led to it eventually falling off the vehicle.

The incident that occurred last Wednesday (12th July) was captured by a CCTV camera of a shop nearby at around 11am. The man’s mother told the local news outlet that her son had been saving since he was 20 years old and that he was on his way to deposit the money in the bank. The young man only noticed that the bag was missing as soon as he arrived at his destination and quickly drove back to look where the bag could’ve fallen off.

Upon arrival, he learned that a bunch of villagers helped collect RM30k of the RM60k that was scattered on the ground and returned it to him but unfortunately, some took the “free money” and kept it as a “gift from heaven”. “My son locked himself in his room as he was depressed after what happened. He was actually saving the money to buy his own car and pay for his father and step-father’s Haj trip,” said the mother.

A police report has been filed and Wan Ibrahim’s mother urged the people who have taken the cash to return it to its rightful owner. Netizens reacted to the story with many sympathising with the young man. Some advised him to not carry around that much money in a bag as it is risky.

Others said they can relate to his misfortune as they’ve been careless themselves and slammed the thieves for taking the scattered money. At the time of writing, there’s been no update from the local police on the missing RM30k.
