It’s 2023 – but women are still being told to change themselves to be more likeable for men. Whether it’s said by a man or another woman, it’s something that happens time and time again.

Recently, a TikToker named Aiman Cengey posted a video making a controversial statement. In the video, he urged women to stop being independent because it’s not a trait that men like. He also said through captions that a woman being independent makes men feel as though they don’t have a purpose in the relationship, ending with the claim that men get insecure when women can earn money.

Unsurprisingly, Aiman’s statement made many women angry and said they would never change themselves to please insecure men. Another comment pointed out that despite Aiman claiming that men find independence unlikable, dependent women will also get judged and called out for wanting the “princess treatment”. Many women also shared that they were taught to be independent by the men in their lives, debunking Aiman’s claim that independence is unlikable.

The video also went viral on Twitter, with many more women sharing their thoughts. One woman provided her perspective on the issue, saying she and her siblings were raised by a single mother. The experience is why she believes women shouldn’t lower themselves for men. Other Twitter users shared the same opinion, saying that men shouldn’t expect women to change to impress the opposite gender or make them feel more masculine.
