After three long years of anticipation, marked by delays due to unexpected challenges such as the partial collapse of the reservoir wall during maintenance, Malaysia’s oldest zoo, Johor Zoo, is finally set to reopen its gates on 31st August—just in time to celebrate Hari Merdeka! The century-old zoo, which was closed down due to the Covid-19 pandemic, has undergone extensive renovations and improvements, ensuring a better experience for both the animals and visitors alike.

This historical landmark, nestled along Jalan Gertak Merah, has been a beloved destination for generations, and now it’s back and better than ever, promising a wild time for everyone. The grand reopening will be officiated by none other than the Johor Regent, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, on 28th August, setting the stage for an exciting new chapter in the zoo’s history. With over 275 animals, including majestic tigers, gentle elephants, and many more, the zoo is ready to roar back into action and welcome visitors from near and far.

Here’s some good news for your wallet! The state government has approved a new ticket pricing structure, keeping it affordable for locals—just RM10 for adults and RM5 for children. Foreign visitors will need to fork out RM30, but let’s be honest, the chance to see Malaysia’s wildlife in such a historic setting is priceless.

Wait, it gets even better! To celebrate the zoo’s reopening, there’s a special treat – a 50% discount on ticket prices for locals throughout the entire month of September. So, whether you’re revisiting childhood memories or making new ones with your family, there’s never been a better time to visit the Johor Zoo.

Opened in 1928 by Almarhum Sultan Sir Ibrahim, the Johor Zoo, formerly known as “Kebun Binatang” has been a cornerstone of the community, and after its recent upgrades, it’s ready to impress all over again. Get ready for a day filled with excitement, adventure, and a bit of nostalgia, because Johor Zoo is back and it’s wilder than ever!
