Malaysians Outraged Over Jocelyn Chia & Chrissie Mayr’s “Apology Tour In KL” Announcement

Comedian Jocelyn Chia has made quite a name for herself for all the wrong reasons. The American-based comedian sparked outrage among Malaysians, Singaporeans, and even the citizens of China after making an insensitive joke about the MH370 tragedy.

Despite an overwhelming demand for an official apology, the former lawyer has shown no remorse for her controversial content. Instead, she and another fellow comedian are taking the opportunity to stretch their new-found international fame even further by going on an “apology tour” with the first stop being Malaysia.

American comedian Chrissie Mayr recently announced on her Instagram that she and Jocelyn Chia will be performing together on their “Apology Tour” around Malaysia starting at the Live House Kuala Lumpur in August. In her captions, she wrote, “Thanks to all the attention Jocelyn Chia and I have gotten from the Malaysians we’re excited to announce we’ll be touring together in Malaysia! Tickets available now!”

The Texas-born podcaster previously went viral for defending Jocelyn Chia on Twitter and even enraged more Malaysians with jokes relating to the missing plane tragedy as well as mocking the citizens’ humour, language, and intelligence. She has also interviewed the infamous comedian on her podcast where the two sparked outrage once again for laughing at the number of people who died on MH370.

Malaysian netizens were understandably upset after Chrissie made the announcement. Many called the two women out for being shameless for even considering doing a show in a country they have continuously mocked. Others tagged the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) as well as government officials to ban the comedians from entering Malaysia.

After reading the details of the supposed upcoming show, we suspected that the “Apology Tour” announcement may be another joke. First, Chrissie said that tickets are “now available” but did not provide any links to purchase them. Second, upon searching the venue for the show online, we discovered that it has been permanently closed, possibly since 2019 judging by the social media inactivity.

So was this all just another joke to get Malaysians angry again? Since PDRM previously requested Interpol for Jocelyn’s whereabouts, it definitely makes sense why she would choose to stay away from possible trouble with law enforcement. If the show is real, what do you think would happen once the two comedians step foot in Malaysia?
