Yesterday (Thursday, 28th November 2024), a man from Johor was arrested on suspicion of raping a woman in her twenties. According to reports, the suspect is a local comedian and is believed to have been a contestant at Raja Lawak, a local live comedy show.
The man’s identity has yet to be revealed, but Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat, the head of Johor Bahru South police, verified the suspect’s apprehension yesterday morning. The only known detail about the man is that he is in his 40s.
According to the news, the victim reported the event after it occurred, and the police arrived quickly at the scene. The suspect is currently being detained on remand until 2nd December for five days. The authorities are looking into this situation seriously and the suspect will be investigated under the Penal Code Section 376. If found guilty, the suspect will be punished with imprisonment for up to 30 years and whipped.
No further information has been released as the investigation is still ongoing, and the police are keeping the suspect’s identity hidden as of now. Many netizens have reacted to the news, demanding authorities to reveal the perpetrator’s identity. Many also expressed how they felt about the said situation, voicing disappointment towards the individual.
