Giving credit where credit is due is something netizens put huge importance on. Recently, many heavily criticised a climber for not thanking the sherpa that saved his life while climbing Mount Everest.

During his recent attempt to summit Mount Everest, seasoned climber T. Ravichandran, also known as Ravi Everest, was stuck in a spot many called the “death zone”. In this area, temperatures can drop to minus 30 degrees Celsius (°C) and it can get hard to breathe after a few minutes due to a lack of oxygen.

When Ravi got stuck in the death zone, a sherpa spotted him and quickly decided to save him and bring him down to safety. Gelje Sherpa shared the story of the rescue mission on his Instagram and was praised by many for his heroism.

While the climber wasn’t revealed in Gelje’s post, many netizens managed to identify him as Ravi after the latter posted on social media about the incident and thanked those who saved him. However, Gelje’s name was initially nowhere to be found in any of Ravi’s posts.

This led many netizens to criticise him for not acknowledging the one who saved him, and many went directly to the climber’s Instagram to show their disappointment. One Twitter user by the handle @/tristupe even claimed that the climber deleted comments that called him out for not crediting his rescuer. Some even alleged that the climber had blocked the sherpa on IG.

Following the backlash, Ravi’s Instagram posts now included Gelje’s name and the names of the other sherpas involved in the rescue mission. The sherpa even commented a “Thank you” on one of the posts and wished for the climber’s recovery. Despite that, netizens still aren’t satisfied with Ravi, saying that he should have acknowledged the sherpas in the first place because he could have died if it weren’t for their help.

What do you guys think about this? Were netizens right for criticising Ravi? Or are they being too harsh on the climber?
