The Malaysian entertainment and communication industry mourns the passing of Malaysian billionaire Tan Sri Tatparanandam Ananda Krishnan, who sadly passed away on 28th November 2024 (Thursday). The Maxis Bhd and Astro founder was 86 years old.
Ananda’s investment holding firm, Usaha Tegas Sdn Bhd, confirmed his passing earlier today. In the statement, the company wrote, “It is with great sadness that we announce the demise of our chairman, T Ananda Krishnan, who passed away peacefully on Nov 28.” The company’s statement also acknowledged the tycoon’s contribution to Malaysia and asked the public to respect the family’s wishes to mourn in private.

Ananda was an influential figure in Malaysia and was listed as the third-richest person in Malaysia by Forbes Magazine, with a net worth of US$5.1 billion (approximately RM22.6 billion). The late tycoon was a Harvard Business School alumnus and, most notably, was the founder of mobile operator Maxis Bhd. and broadcasting and media company Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd. He’s also a known philanthropist, often donating to various causes through Usaha Tegas.
Despite his wealth, the late billionaire was a private individual and shied away from the media spotlight for most of his life. Ananda reportedly split his time between Malaysia and France, where he spent most of his time with his wife. The couple have three children together, including their only son, Ven Ajahn Siripanyo, a Buddhist monk. Meanwhile, Ananda’s two daughters were reportedly uninterested in taking over his businesses.

We extend our condolences to the family and loved ones of the late Ananda Krishnan. May they find peace and solace during this difficult time.
