To be featured on your local billboard is already a big deal but to be featured on one of the biggest and most popular digital billboards in the world is definitely something else. We’re talking about the New York’s Time Square Digital Billboard.
We’ve seen many famous artists on those big billboards around Time Square like Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, BLACKPINK and BTS. But did you know that some of our very own Malaysian singers have also graced the screen of the New York’s Time Square Billboard? Let’s see who has been featured:
1. Dato’ Sri Siti Nurhaliza
Malaysia’s number 1 singer is the latest artist to be featured on the New York’s Time Square Billboard. Siti has been chosen to be our country’s representative for the EQUAL Campaign created by Spotify. “After so many milestones in music, this is one of the sweetest for me. I am truly thankful for this honour,” said the singer in her recent Instagram post.
2. Vanessa Reynauld
Malaysian singer-songwriter Vanessa Reynauld was once featured on the New York’s Time Square Billboard back in February earlier this year. The “Putus” singer also represented Malaysia and Singapore for the Spotify EQUAL campaign. “Wish I could be there to witness it cause It feels surreal , and I’m so honoured to be apart of it ! Hard work paid off , and I’m so proud of myself”, she captioned in her Instagram post.
3. Aina Abdul
Johor-born singer Aina Abdul has also graced the screen of NY Time Square Billboard back in March of this year. Just like the singers listed so far, the “Cahayamu” songstress was chosen for the Spotify EQUAL campaign representing Malaysia. “To be on board with a number of the finest feminine musicians for the EQUAL marketing campaign nonetheless feels surreal to me! To one other milestone!” she said.
4. Dolla
Malaysian girl group Dolla has made the country proud after being featured on the NY Time Square Billboard in 2021. After learning about their appearance, member Sabronzo said that, “This is such a huge honour for a newly formed vocal group like us and we hope we can continue to live to the expectations of our fans”.
5. Iman Troye
One of the youngest local artists to be featured on the NY Time Square Billboard was singer Iman Troye. The “Harum Sundal Malam” hitmaker posted on her Instagram last year with the caption, “Mama, my face is on the Billboard 🥺❤️ Alhamdulillah! so glad to be featured on Equal, representing Malaysia & Singapore on New York City Times Square”.
6. Layla Sania
Joining the list of youngest Malaysian artist to be featured on the Time Square Billboard is none other than Layla Sania. Who knew this girl who won a singing contest back 2018 would one day be on one of the most popular billboards in the world? The “By Your Side” singer posted on Instagram sharing the amazing news of being on the Time Square billboard with her fans.
7. Yuna
Last but certainly not least, our girl Yuna made her appearance on the Time Square billboard not once, not twice but three times! Yuna’s first appearance on the billboard was in 2016 and then again in 2018 when she was promoting her album “Rogue”. Her last appearance was in 2020 when she was chosen as the face of Spotify’s “Our Roots, Our Sound” campaign.
