Ticketing services have evolved over the years, with digital tickets being the new norm as buying them in person proved to have its own challenges. However, with every solution comes a brand new set of problems, as online ticket scalpers are running rampant across the globe, leaving real fans disappointed and scammed.
According to the Malay Mail, Communications Minister, YB Datuk Ahmad Fahmi bin Mohamed Fadzil has confirmed that an anti-scalping law is in motion, following the rising problem of concert ticket scalpers for international acts. The exploitation of fans for profit has escalated incidents involving ticket scalping, causing detrimental problems to organisers and fans alike.

“Right now, there are active discussions between the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) and the Communications Ministry”, says Fadzil following a recent close discussion involving his deputy, Teo Nie Ching and several stakeholders for local event ticketing companies and the Association of Live Event Organisers (ALIFE).
Some of the measures proposed for the law include ID verification, requiring ticket holders to present the same identification document used during purchase to match the name printed on the ticket. Currently, there are no laws explicitly banning the resale of tickets at a higher price in Malaysia, which limits the legal action that can be used against ticket scalpers.
