Sepang Municipal Council (MP Sepang) president Datuk Puasa Md Taib announced that the trial run of the Selangor Smart Bus service, formerly known as “Bas Selangorku”, will be launched next month in Selayang and Sepang. The state government has also allocated RM600,000 to manage the free bus service.

“The council, along with the State Economic Planning Unit, will monitor the bus service closely during the 3-to-6-month trial period. If the response is good, then we will write to the state government to ask for more buses,” said Puasa in Cyberjaya yesterday.

The Selayang route (30km) will be launched on 1st May and it will start from Selayang Stadium in Bandar Baru Selayang, then proceed to the Gombak police station, Hospital Selayang, Selayang Baru, Batu Caves, Greenwood, and International Islamic University Malaysia, before ending at Gombak’s Putra Terminal at an interval of 30 minutes.

On the other hand, the Sepang route (58.4km) will begin on the 3rd week of May and it will start from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and proceed to KLIA 2, ERL Salak Tinggi, Sungai Pelek, and lastly, Tanjung Sepat at an interval of 1 hour and 30 minutes.

MP Sepang Town Planning officer Ahmad Faizal Roslan said 20,000 passengers, mainly students and senior citizens, are expected to use the service. He also added that the council is currently looking into the possibility of asking passengers to show their MyKad to ensure that only Malaysians use the free service.

Selangor Smart Bus service is a government initiative to help alleviate ever-worsening traffic conditions and is currently available in Shah Alam, Subang Jaya, Klang, Ampang, and Kajang.
