Despite us often boasting slogans such as “Satu Malaysia (One Malaysia)“, racist Malaysians are still very much a thing in this country. In fact, a local lady claims a fellow Malaysian recently lashed out at her, allegedly because of her race.

Just yesterday (5th December), Jessica Sin took to TikTok to share her experience of racism in Malaysia. Reportedly, she had been at the Bangsar LRT station, when another lady started cursing and spitting on her. She believes the lady acted as such because of her race. Needless to say, the incident left her quite distressed.

“Can’t stand racism in this country anymore,” Jessica started, sounding upset. “So, I was at the Bangsar LRT station and I was about to tap my card at the LRT to exit, (then) another Malay lady also came and wanted to enter (the station) from the opposite direction.” But, things took an odd turn when the lady made a wild accusation, claiming Jessica had “taken her turnstile” despite Jessica insisting she had arrived first.

Unfortunately, the other woman seemed very unwilling to let the issue go. “She ended up spitting all over me, running after me to spit her saliva all over me, repeatedly, and (wouldn’t) let me (leave) the LRT station,” Jessica recounted, her distress at the lady’s actions clear in her voice. “Then she cursed me, (said) a lot of things, a lot of vulgarities and I’m like, what the heck? It’s only because I’m Chinese that she will do this kind of thing.”

Jessica claimed the lady had used vulgarities commonly directed at the Chinese by Malays. “This lady is just a Malay lady, and she thinks (because) she’s Malay and I’m Chinese, she can bully me like that. I can’t stand it anymore,” she said.

Her sharing of the incident unfortunately upset many, with some alleging she was claiming all Malays were racist, while others accused her of faking the story since she failed to record the incident when it took place. The overwhelmingly negative response had her responding to a few comments, while clarifying her situation further.

Jessica explained that she was not generalising all Malays as racist, merely the one woman whom she met. She did admit that the lady could have simply been acting crazy, however, she perceived the attack on her as racist due the remarks made. She also claimed the lady had pursued her to the point where a station attendant had to step in, insisting that she had done absolutely nothing to warrant the lady’s anger.

“If this is Malaysia, if this is fair, if this is your definition of fair, then I don’t know what fairness is anymore,” she tearfully added in response to the harsh remarks she had allegedly received. Comments to her videos have since been turned off. Jessica also claimed that she has made a police report regarding the incident.

Well, we certainly can’t deny that racism still runs rampant in Malaysia, oftentimes more subtle than we think. But, we do hope Jessica feels better soon after the traumatic incident and that authorities will handle the situation appropriately.

@jessica_sin

I get abused physically and verbally. And a certain group of people still report me as the wrong one and emotionally abuse me now. I don’t know what is fairness anymore. Apparently it is right to be abused and the victim is the wrong one for voicing out. Wow what mentality #malaysia #malaysian #abuse #attack #lrt #station #awareness #response #kualalumpur #kl #city #issue #incident #fairness
