#MaksChee: Michelin-Recommended Eatery Introduces Swiss Chicken Leg

by Estee Ang
April 26, 2017

Mak’s Chee (麥氏西池港式雲吞面) is opening its 2nd Malaysian outlet at Pavilion Elite, Kuala Lumpur on 1st May 2017 and to commemorate the occasion, the eatery will be introducing a new promotional dish called the Swiss Chicken Leg.

Slow-cooked with sweet soy sauce and various herbs and spices, the new menu, which will be made available from 4th May to 31st July, comes in 3 different options: Original Swiss Chicken Leg (RM9.90), Swiss Chicken Leg with Rice and Sunny Side-up Egg (RM15.90), Swiss Chicken Leg Dry Noodle (RM13.90/RM15.90).

According to Mr. Gary Crestejo, the director of Mak’s Chee Malaysia, the Swiss Chicken Leg is an authentic Hong-Kong-style dish and unrelated to Switzerland at all. In fact, there’s a funny story behind it.

“A Westerner came across a delicious chicken dish in the infamous Tai Ping Koon Restaurant and asked a Chinese waiter what that was. The waiter, who did not speak perfect English, introduced the dish as ‘Sweet Chicken Leg’. The customer misinterpreted sweet as ‘Swiss’, and the name was used ever since,” he said.

Having tried the chicken ourselves, we can see why it’s such a popular dish among Hong Kongers. While the chicken looks ordinary and dull, the meat is tender and juicy. Sweet, savoury, and flavourful, the sauce goes perfectly well with Mak’s Chee’s springy and fine egg noodles.

  • Week 2: 11th – 17th May, for Beef Tendon & Brisket Soup Noodle
  • Week 3: 18th – 24th May, for Sweet & Sour Pork Dry Noodle
  • Week 4: 25th – 31st May, for Dumpling Soup/Dry Noodle

Note: The promotion is exclusively for the Pavilion Elite outlet only.
