On 28th November, news of local singer Queenzy Cheng (莊群施)’s sudden passing devastated many. However, no one was more devastated than those who considered themselves her family.
Since then, it has since been announced that there will be a three day wake held for Queenzy Cheng at her hometown, and many have already visited to pay their respects. Unsurprisingly, this includes her old girl-group M-Girls (四个女生).
As was later announced via her socials, a memorial service is being held for Queenzy from 29th November to 1st December. However, a day after it was revealed that Queenzy had passed, most of the M-Girls shared that they were already travelling, assumedly back to Queenzy’s hometown in Kangar, Perlis.
Recent photos showed the M-Girls, Crystal Ong (王雪晶), Angeline Khoo (邱燕妮), and Cass Chin (金燕子), gathering for a final time, in front of Queenzy’s memorial. Although the girls looked fairly put together, they faces were red and looked like they had been crying. But, as Angeline later shared, they had a good time together, reminiscing their memories of Queenzy.
“We’re here to see you!” Angeline chirped. “We chatted a lot about the wonderful times we had together. When we said goodbye to you, our eyes were swollen from crying while holding each other. So… in the photo, you are the most beautiful today.” All three girls said their goodbyes, promising to see her in the next life.
Crystal Ong’s manager later shared the quartet had been very close, likely helped by the fact they were all the same age. Allegedly, the last time the four of them had reunited was on 19th May this year when they celebrated Crystal’s birthday.
Queenzy Cheng’s parents however are reportedly struggling to come to terms with their daughter’s abrupt passing. One of the most difficult decisions they’ve had to make unfortunately is whether to bury or cremate her. According to her sister, Queenzy’s parents had already bought tombs for themselves at the local cemetery, where their relatives are buried.
But, Queenzy’s mom insisted that Queenzy wouldn’t like it, insisting she wanted to be cremated. As such, they decided to have her cremated and her ashes buried at Prestavest Memorial Park, Alor Setar. Her parents too plan to accompany Queenzy later. “Because (their) daughter left first, (our) parents will not leave her by herself and will stay with her,” her sister added. The family has since bought a columbarium for three.
Fans and friends can still pay respects to Queenzy Cheng in Kangar, Perlis. Her funeral will be held on 2nd December at 10am. She will then be escorted to Prestavest Memorial Park, Alor Setar to be cremated and put to rest.
We sincerely hope Queenzy Cheng’s family and friends will find peace in her passing as time goes on. She will be sorely missed.
