In Islam, a Muslim man is allowed to marry more than one woman. However, the decision to marry another often comes from the husband, not the wife. Recently, local influencer Mekyun shared how she felt after being asked to be a man’s second wife – by the first wife herself.
The influencer, whose real name is Wee Yun Nee, shared the peculiar interaction through her Threads account on 4th August (Sunday). In the post, Mekyun wrote, “I want to share this story from last night (3rd August) when a woman approached me for a photo. She then asked, “Do you want to be my husband’s second wife? Do you want to be my co-wife?” while pointing to her husband in front of her kids. I was shocked.”

Given the odd question, it’s understandable that Mekyun was taken aback. When asked by a follower what her response was, the social media personality said she could only laugh it off while refusing the woman’s request. The interaction led to some netizens jokingly questioning whether the woman was asking to test her husband’s loyalty or because she was a fan of the TikTok star and wanted to be related to her in some way.
However, some netizens felt iffy about the situation and warned Mekyun to be wary of these questions as it may be a trick to defame the Kelantanese or sabotage her career through false rumours. Others also voiced distaste for people asking such personal questions to public figures as it may cause some to feel uncomfortable by unwillingly getting involved in a stranger’s love life.
The topic of polygamy has been debated in the local entertainment scene many times, given that some influencers like Aliff Teega and Abang Tesla were slammed for marrying another woman. However, some women, like singer Ezlynn Ariffin, have expressed a positive outlook on polygamy. The star even admits to finding another younger woman to marry her husband.

Regardless of her views, we hope exercise respect when approaching Mekyun in the future.
