Ever since local photographer Acacia Diana came out with her story about her stalker, many women have also open up about their experiences of being stalked and harassed. Take business owner Afifah Roslan for example, who recently shared her story about her former employee, whom has been harassing her for over a year.
Afifah started her Twitter thread by saying, “I think it’s time I opened up (about) this publicly because I can’t stand living in stress, trauma and fear”. In the thread, Afifah shared that the stalker, Amril, was her former staff when she was in the coffee business, adding she was never comfortable with him and relied on her business partner to liaise with Amril for any work-related issues.
According to the victim, the stalker had suddenly quit his job without reason, but she continued business as usual. However, he called her a month later, angry that she did not look for him. Her business partner then took over the call to deal with the stalker, but the incident did not stop him. Amril began excessively texting the victim and professing his love for her, even stalking her on other social media platforms and through her businesses.
During the fasting month, Afifah once again received messages from Amril while performing her umrah. As she was uncomfortable, she tried to tell him to stop harassing her, and according to the tweet, this would be the last time she responded. Unfortunately, the stalker continued his antics and even created more social media accounts to continue contacting the businesswoman.
In May, Amril sent the victim a voicemail saying, “I have to see you. Whatever happens, happens”. Afifah began fearing for her safety, but to avoid directly contacting Amril, she decided to ask her business partner to speak to the stalker in hopes to stop the harassment. Amril did stop sending messages momentarily before continuing to contact the victim through various social platforms.
Afifah revealed that the harassment is still ongoing, with the most recent contact being on 8th August when the stalker called her business’ headquarters. On the same day, she made a second police report but was told to contact authorities if the stalker was nearby. She ended the thread by saying she is terrified and mentally exhausted, adding she only wants to live in peace.
After sharing her story, Afifah received support from netizens who are hoping her case gets resolved soon and are praying for her safety. Photographer Acacia, whose stalker case received nationwide coverage, even contacted Afifah on how she could quicken investigations, advising her to keep a record of the harassment. Many netizens also slammed the authorities for their lack of urgency for stalker cases.
Acacia said victims of harassment should stress Act 507A of the Penal Code, also known as the anti-stalking law, to open any investigations on stalking. We hope that authorities will finally take action to help Afifah be free from all the stress and suffering.
