Former Lenovo Chairman Zhang Cheng Mao Passed Away Age 92

Lenovo has since made its mark, thanks to its many technological wonders. Unfortunately, one of its former chairmen, Zhang Cheng Mao (长曾茂) was recently reported to have passed away.

According to Chinese media, an obituary notice was issued by the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences via its official WeChat account on Wednesday (6th March) announcing Zhang Cheng Mao’s passing. He reportedly passed away due to illness at age 92.

Zheng Cheng Mao was a famous computer expert and the former director of the Institute of Computing Technology. However, during his time serving the institute, he was entrusted to be the chairman of Lenovo from 1988 to 2009 after encouraging and supporting researchers to found the New Technology Development Company, Lenovo’s predecessor.

The former chairman had always been exceptional in the field of computers, even being a founder in the field of magnetic storage in China. In 1984, he was named as one of the first batches of young to middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions in China. Cheng Mao was also acknowledged as an important leader, supporter and promoter in Lenovo’s founding and development.

The obituary revealed that Zheng Cheng Mao had passed away at age 92 on 4th March in Beijing at 10:48pm. Reportedly, his passing was due to ineffective treatment, although there was no mention of his illness. His funeral will be held at 11am on 12th March at the Orchid Hall at the Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery.
