If you’re looking for a hotspot to make your Instagram feed 10x better, then look no further than Kwai Chai Hong in Chinatown! In celebration of the Mid-Autumn festival this year, the century-old alleyway behind Petaling Street returns with a breathtaking installation inspired by a captivating medley of Chinese mythology and folklore, the Moonlit Dragon (龍月雙輝) that combines cultural themes of the dragon and the full moon.

What makes this installation this year special is its partnership with Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 | Flip5 and local artist Kaiyi Wong from Unreality Studio. Let’s learn more about the artist and this collaboration:

For this year’s installation, it was said that each element of the Moonlit Dragon represents a fearsome almighty dragon that is brought to life through painstakingly crafted wooden frames covered in an enchanting lattice of translucent plastic plates that are arranged to resemble ancient Chinese coins connected by a red string.

“The Mid-Autumn Festival holds a special place in the hearts of the Chinese people. The ‘Moonlit Dragon’ aims to transport visitors to a realm of wonder, where the mythical dragon and the moon come together in harmony,” said Kaiyi Wong, a designer and digital artist known for bold and enthralling art creations. He also added that the artwork serves to guide the people as a vital thread woven into the intricate tapestry of our beloved Chinese lineage.

Once guests enter Kwai Chai Hong, they’ll be greeted by the captivating interplay of light and shadow that creates a breathtaking scene, as if the dragon’s spirit in dynamic flight, punctures through the building’s façade. Here’s what you can expect from this year’s installation.

Kwai Chai Hong is open to the public daily from 9am to 12 midnight. The Moonlit Dragon will be available from 25th August until 8th October. Come celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival at Kwai Chai Hong with your loved ones and be sure to check out everything the area has to offer!
