Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is coming up with a new system and hopefully, this will cause less traffic incidents.

The governing body of Kuala Lumpur has decided to come up with special motorcycle stop zones at traffic lights, and will run a 3-month trial for motorists to get used to the arrangement.

Painted in red and white, the designated spot will be able to accommodate more than 20 motorcycles at one time. Motorcyclists will have to stop only at that area while waiting for the light to change. Other vehicles must also stop behind the zone.

The system will only be implemented at 3 locations initially, namely Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, and Jalan Tun Perak. However, it will be implemented at more roads in the future, and one of the potential locations is Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman.

After the trial period, all motorists who fail to abide by the system will be fined between RM50 to RM100.

Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Mhd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz also explained that the restructuring is “to improve overall traffic safety and provide better facilities for motorcyles to stop in a safe condition”.
