It looks like Malaysia continues to be favoured by international tourists and publications! After Kuala Lumpur’s Petaling Street placed 6th on Time Out’s Top 30 Coolest Streets In The World, our country received several more recognitions from travel and lifestyle magazine DestinAsian.

The multi-award-winning magazine recently released the latest edition of its annual Readers’ Choice Awards, listing the top places to stay in the Asia Pacific region. The list also includes the top cities, islands, airlines and more, as voted by readers of DestinAsian.

One of the top categories in DestinAsian’s Readers’ Choice Awards is the ‘Best Cities’ category. This year, the magazine named Kuala Lumpur the 4th best city in Asia Pacific, beating out destinations like Hong Kong, Seoul, South Korea, and Sydney, Australia. Securing the top three spots are Bangkok, Thailand, Tokyo, Japan and Singapore.

Besides taking the top five spot in the best cities list, Malaysia also found two local destinations in the top ten of the best islands in Asia Pacific. Popular travel destination Langkawi comfortably settled itself at seventh place, while food paradise Penang nabbed the eighth spot. The two islands beat Palawan Island in the Philippines and Lombok Island in Indonesia, which placed ninth and tenth place, respectively.

Malaysia was also in the top ten of a few more categories, including best airports, airlines and boutique hotels. Here are all the destinations and companies also featured in DestinAsian’s 17th Readers’ Choice Awards:

  • Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) – Best Airport (10th Place)
  • Malaysia Airlines – Best Airline (7th Place)
  • Malaysia Airlines – Best Premium Class For Airline (7th Place)
  • Malaysia Airlines – Best Economy Class For Airline (9th Place)
  • Malaysia Airlines Enrich – Best Frequent-Flier Programme (6th Place)
  • AirAsia – Best Low-Cost Airline (1st Place)
  • Villa Samadhi Kuala Lumpur – Best Boutique Hotel (4th Place)
