We’ve had unexpected dating news dropping on us all the time, such as EXO’s Kai and f(x)’s Krystal, Lee Min Ho and miss A’s Suzy, as well as Lee Seung Gi and SNSD Girls’ Generation’s Yoona. However, fans have always had indications of their relationships.
Not this one, though.
Yesterday (Thursday, 24th November), first generation idol Moon Hee Jun, who is a former member of 1990s idol group H.O.T, made a sudden engagement announcement, giving fans the shock of their lives. But what surprised fans the most was his other half, revealed to be Crayon Pop’s Soyul.
Moon revealed the news through a handwritten letter via his fan cafe, informing fans that he would be getting married soon and thanking them for always staying by his side. He also explained that he wanted them to know about the news first-hand, as they’re precious to him.
His letter reads:
“I’m an adult, but writing this, I feel like I’ve really become an adult. (My fans), I’m going to marry. It’s another thing that’s changed between us, but for me, you know that you’re always first and you’re precious to me, right?”
Although he did not reveal the name of his partner, it was soon revealed to be Soyul. The Crayon Pop member also released a handwritten letter to fans, which you can read here:
“Hello this is Crayon Pop’s Soyul. Time flies by so fast and it’s winter already. I hope all of my fans are doing well. I am doing very well, thanks to all the love and support you guys are showing me. Today I have some surprising news which I felt you needed to hear first. I am very nervous as I write this…I have met someone who has shown me unconditional love and has cared for me with a warm heart, and I am getting married.
I know this is very sudden but I have thought a lot about this before making such a life-changing decision. I believe that you will support and congratulate my decision. I hope you guys can congratulate our life together as well. The marriage is not going to be an end but I will come back to you guys to repay you for the love you have shown me. I will come back a more mature Soyul. Thank you!”
Moon’s agency, Koen Stars, has also confirmed the news, and told the public that the couple met around 2 years ago but only started dating in April this year, and are planning to get married in February next year.
While his agency was well-informed and prepared, it seemed like Crayon Pop’s agency was a little confused over the situation. When the news broke, they only managed a statement which reads, “Currently, we’re unable to get in touch with Soyul, so it’s difficult to confirm the news. We’ll make a statement after we get in contact with her.”
However, they managed to get a hold of the situation and clarified to the public that it wasn’t a shotgun marriage, and that the couple thought deeply before making the decision.
UPDATE (6th February, 5pm):
Former H.O.T. leader Moon Hee Jun and his wife-to-be, Crayon Pop’s Soyul, have dropped some gorgeous pre-wedding photos in anticipation of their upcoming wedding.
While fans are mostly taken aback by the news, majority of them have sent their well wishes and congratulated the couple. Despite the pair’s huge age gap (he’s 38 years old, she’s 25), we hope that the first “idol couple” will make it work!

The wedding will be held at Shilla Hotel, Seoul on 12th February, just 2 days before Valentine’s Day.
