The local entertainment scene mourns the loss of another young talent. Former child actor William Yap Tze Cheng (叶子诚), best known for his work in the live-action adaptation of “Kokko & May (Ge Mei Lia/哥妹俩)”, passed away earlier this week. He was 25.
According to news reports, William passed away on 8th December 2025 (Monday). “Kokko & May” creator Eddie See (徐有利) was the first to share the news of his death with the public. In his post, the comic artist revealed that William had passed away due to an illness, but didn’t disclose details. An obituary notice shows that the young actor’s funeral will be held on 11th December 2025 (Thursday).

William made his debut in the live-action adaptation of “Kokko & May”, released in 2013. The comic book series created by Eddie See tells the daily life stories of siblings Kokko and May See. The ongoing series, first published in 1997, is loved by many Malaysians for its morals and cultural storytelling. A movie adaptation of the series was released in 2013, in which William played the main character, Kokko.
In his Facebook posts, Eddie expressed sadness over William’s sudden passing, adding he’s still in disbelief. He reminisced about the time they spent together making the movie and the last time he and William spoke. The comic artist also revealed that he went to the wake, expressing sadness upon seeing William and hearing his mother’s quiet voice as she greeted him.

Besides “Kokko & May”, William also acted in the movie “The Kid From The Big Apple (我來自紐約)” and the YouTube series “Bad Students? 2 (最烂学生?2)”. Local artist Nick Chung (钟盛忠), who directed “Bad Students? 2”, also shared a tribute post for William on his Facebook page, thanking the late star for his work on the project. Fans of William’s work also sent in their condolences through social media and mourned his sudden passing.
We’d also like to extend our condolences to William’s loved ones. May they find solace during this difficult time, and may the young talent rest in peace.
