There are things we sometimes take for granted as we don’t often realise them until they’re gone. However, thanks to foreigners, especially content creators, who’ve travelled to Malaysia, we’re reminded of the beautiful things in our country and we start to appreciate our culture and heritage more.
Speaking of which, we now have one more thing to be grateful about our country. Time Out recently released their Top 30 Coolest Streets In The World list and our very own Petaling Street managed to take the Top 10 spot! Wanna know where we ranked? Let’s find out:
Earlier this week, Time Out released their Coolest Streets list which “highlights some of the most must-visit streets, roads, avenues, plazas and boulevards in cities around the globe, where locals head for a guaranteed good time.” As for how they collected the data, it was from local editors and writers around the world’s who shared their experiences and recommendations.
The ranking is based on those writers’ hyperlocal insights and expertise – factoring in food, drink, fun, art, culture, nightlife and community vibes. According to the full list, Malaysia’s Petaling Street is ranked at No.6! According to their article, the iconic street was described as one of Kuala Lumpur’s “oldest streets, but it is experiencing a renaissance, with the juxtaposition of Kuala Lumpur’s oldest temples rubbing shoulders with the newest drinking and dining spots.”
Taking the No.1 spot was Melbourne, Australia’s High Street followed by Hong Kong’s Hollywood Road at No.2 and Austin, USA’s East Eleventh. As for our neighbouring countries, Singapore’s Cecil Street took the 29th spot just above Manila’s L.P Leviste Street which took the No.30 spot of the list.
Whether or not this list is reliable, it’s still good to know that our iconic street is one of the most recommended places to visit by a global publication and that’s something to be proud of. Be sure to visit Time Out’s official website to view the full list.
