Is there a fine line between being strict and being rude? Well, after this local man shared he was shouted at by KLIA 2 officials over drinking some water, netizens are in two minds about it!

No one likes to be shouted at, especially when we’re of the opinion things can be resolved peacefully. Recently, a local man took to his socials to air his grievances about KLIA 2’s officials after he was allegedly scolded for drinking water at the security check. Needless to say, it sparked a debate about who’s in the right.

The incident reportedly took place on 1st June at the KLIA 2 International Departure Hall. From the photo, the man had apparently been going through the security check when he had a small tiff with the officials there, reportedly after he drank water at the check. “Why can’t the KLIA 2 airport staff speak politely?” he started. “I’m a 58-year-old senior citizen and probably (didn’t) hear what was said.”

Although some claim drinking water while at the security check is against the rules, the man was more concerned with the way he had been reprimanded. “Don’t be too egotistical,” he continued. “It’s not a big deal to drink water.” He went on to add that the official’s “stubborn and angry attitude” could be detrimental for the country’s dignity. “If this is the way (you handle your job), you’d better stop working or be fired,” he said.

Some netizens have agreed with the man’s views. “It doesn’t matter if you’re old or young, they love raising their voice. (If you) say they are rude, they will get angry,” one comment stated. Another wrote: “It’s not weird, (in the time that I’ve travelled), it can’t be denied that Malaysia’s airport staff is the rudest when it involves custom and immigration (officials).”

However, others were more sympathetic towards the official. Some pointed out that they had likely been dealing with many travelers and had run out of patience. Others claimed their attitude was necessary. “Handling thousands of people requires (you) to be strict, you can’t be gentle all the time. As a passenger, (you) need to understand protocol and not trouble the officials,” a netizen lectured.

However, notably enough Malaysia Airports reached out to the man via the comments section. “We’re sorry for the treatment you received while at our airport,” they wrote. “For investigative purposes and further action, please share information (about the incident) via our DMs.” But, some advised them to not bother with such complaints as it could incite further objections despite the officials allegedly carrying out their work.

Well, this isn’t the first time netizens have complained about working officials. Just last month, someone claimed an immigration officer withheld their passport at the Sultan Abu Bakar Immigration CIQ in Johor.
