Khairul Aming has announced legal action following the recent breach of his personal data. On top of taking action against telecommunications company Maxis, he’s also urging authorities to investigate the Threads user who publicly claimed to have obtained his private information.
On 22nd July 2026 (Wednesday), Khairul Aming, whose real name is Khairul Amin Kamarulzaman, took to Threads to share an update on the recent data breach incident. To recap, a Threads user recently claimed to have obtained the entrepreneur’s mobile billing information. The user then shared purported details about the bill, including overdue amounts.
Understandably, the issue sparked concern about a data breach, with Khairul Aming demanding Maxis explain how a stranger had access to his personal data. The telco company has publicly responded to the issue, noting that it was an isolated incident. However, Maxis didn’t disclose how the Threads user had obtained the content creator’s information.
In his latest post, Khairul Aming said he has initiated legal action over the incident and has lodged multiple reports with respective parties. He confirmed that his lawyers have taken over the case, issuing a Letter of Demand (LOD) to Maxis regarding the data breach. The 33-year-old also filed an official complaint with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
Additionally, Khairul Aming has lodged a police report with the Dang Wangi district police headquarters to initiate an investigation against the perpetrator. He also filed a separate data breach report with the police’s Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID). He noted that his lawyers will pursue the case until completion.
The influencer ended his Threads post, writing, “I’m honestly sad and frightened because it’s so easy for one’s privacy to disappear.” Khairul Aming continued, “Every piece of data has been leaked: my phone details, payment history, subscription, all the way to my IC number that could be used to access MySara.”
The public has expressed support for Khairul Aming as he pursues legal action against Maxis and the perpetrator. Many also hoped that the virality of this incident would prompt the government to impose stronger laws for data protection, lamenting that many others have been victims of data leaks.
