Whenever Chinese New Year comes around, many restaurants launch exclusive meals and give out some limited-edition CNY freebies. While most would stick with the typical ang pau (red envelope), KFC went a rather amusing route.

KFC Singapore recently announced the official KFC ‘HuatWear’ shorts – a pair of Chinese New Year-themed unisex boxer shorts. The shorts are only available for those who purchased a set of their new limited-time Chicken Bak Kwa menu items. According to their Instagram post, the shorts are only available at selected KFC outlets in Singapore.

According to AsiaOne, the bright red shorts were designed in consultation with Singaporean Feng Shui master Jet Lee. The printed designs featured auspicious symbols, including a God of Fortune who looks like the Colonel, gold prosperity coins and longevity peaches. Of course, the shorts also feature KFC chicken and the Chicken Bak Kwa burger, in case you need a reminder of where it’s from.

The shorts went viral after the fast food chain announced the launch on 30th January. Many netizens have reacted to the shorts, joking that they are more like boxers. Many also question whether they are supposed to be worn as underwear or bottoms since the fast-food chain did not specify the intended purpose. However, most did say they’re interested in grabbing a pair to bring more luck during the CNY celebration.

Unfortunately, it looks like the HuatWear shorts are only available in Singapore, with no news of anything similar being released here in Malaysia – but would you be willing to queue for a pair of KFC shorts?
