There have been many success stories over the years but who knew you can be a successful businessman by just selling stink beans? Mohd Zaini Zawawi, also known as @abezaini1 on TikTok, posted a video on his channel where he explains how he makes up to RM60k a month from selling the infamous stink beans, locally known as petai.

The 40-year-old Kelantan man went on to claim that he makes a profit by cleverly capitalizing on the supply and demand for the beans.

“Sure it’s easy to make money but of course, we’d need capital to sell and you must know how to sell them as well,” he added. However, that was only part of his success story as the kind of petai he sells also plays a role.

In his interview with mStar, the entrepreneur revealed that the petai he sold were all imported from Betong, Thailand. What makes the imported beans so special, apart from their low price, was that they were peeled and ready-to-consume beans.

The TikToker shared that the beans do not spoil as easily even if they were left for three to four days, as long as customers remember to not soak them in water. The TikTok post went viral and although they were those who congratulated the businessman on his success, many were also skeptical if the RM60k took additional costs into account.

Some questioned Zaini regarding the cost of refrigeration in order to keep the petai from spoiling. The TikToker also failed to mention anything regarding the cost of transportation as the stink beans were all imported from Thailand. Others were confused about his calculations as his explanation wasn’t clear enough.

At the time of writing, Zaini has yet to respond to these questions and doubts but assuming that everything he said in the video is true then we wish nothing but the best for him and may his petai business continue to grow.
