A few months ago, it was reported that Sony Pictures enlisted comedy director Jake Kasdan (from “Sex Tape”, “Fresh Of The Boat, and “The New Girl”) and screenwriter Scott Rosenberg (from “Con Air” and “Gond In 60 Seconds”) to work on the upcoming “Jumanji” remake.
Now, there are more good news for the movie reboot because the studio is planning to bring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Kevin Hart to star in the film!
The pair recently worked together for comedy called “Central Intelligence” that will be released on 17th June.
According to Screen Rant, whether or not the pair land the movie could largely depend on how “Central Intelligence” fares in cinemas. If all goes well, or at least if there’s positive buzz around the duo’s performance, then there would be a higher chance for Sony to sign them on for “Jumanji”.
“Jumanji” is a 1995 American cult classic directed by Joe Johnston based on a screenplay by Greg Taylor, Jonathan Hensleigh, and Jim Strain. It is the film adaptation of the 1981 children’s book of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg.
The film starred the late Robin Williams as Alan Parrish, which later became one of his most memorable roles. It also starred Kirsten Dunst, David Alan Grier, Bonnie Hunt, Jonathan Hyde, and Bebe Neuwirth.
Sony Pictures’ “Jumanji” is slated for release on 18th July 2017.
