The giant pandas Jia Jia and Kai Kai has landed in Singapore!
Channel News Asia tweeted this picture yesterday, confirmed that the two extremely huge but extremely lovable endangered species are safe and found in Changi airport:
The male and female pair is on loan from China and they will be making Singapore their home for the next 10 years. An $8.6 million home has been built to accommodate Jia Jia and Kai Kai at Singapore’s latest tourist destination, the River Safari.
It encompasses 1,5000 sq metre of lush and green oasis designed to replicate the panda’s original home in Sichuan province, which also bears some 50 species of bamboo and other sub-tropical plants. The pandas’ home’s design team said that the enclosure exceeds the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ standards for the pandas’ comfort.
We say, wow, the cost for perpetual air-conditioning must be expensive considering Singapore’s tropical heat! The River Safari has also said that they’re hoping on achieving a breeding programme for baby pandas.
The pandas have come a long and far way from home and they’ll be quarantined before being moved to the River Safari. Visitors can expect to see Jia Jia and Kai Kai when the exhibit opens in December this year.
