Jeff Bezos, founder and former CEO of Amazon, was named the “richest man in modern history” in recent years and it looks like he’s finally doing something good with all that money in his pocket.
Either he was visited by 3 Christmas spirits recently or he genuinely had planned this for a while. Regardless, Jeff Bezos just announced that he’s planning to donate a vast amount of his wealth to charity. The businessman told CNN that he would donate most of his money to fighting climate change and reducing inequality.
The revelation came after the Amazon founder gave $100 million (RM458.9 million) to country music legend and philanthropist Dolly Parton to use for charitable causes. The “Jolene” singer vows to make good use of the money she received, saying, “I think people who are in a position to help should put their money where their heart is. I will do my best to do good things with this money.”
When asked if he has always intended to give away most of his fortune within his lifetime, the 58-year-old simply answered, “Yeah I do.” The multi-billionaire, whose net worth is $124.1 billion (RM569.5 billion), has yet to give full details of his plans on how or where he will give away his money. Hours after his recent announcement, it was reported that Amazon is planning to lay off 10k employees starting this week. It is currently unknown why the layoff is happening but the job cuts are reportedly the largest in the company’s history and would cause an impact on Amazon’s devices organization, retail division, and human resources. At the time of writing, neither Jeff Bezos nor any Amazon executives commented on this matter.
