#JeddahTower: The World’s Tallest Building Is, Oh, Only About One Kilometer High

As you all may know, The Burj Khalifa in Dubai currently holds the title of world’s tallest building. But that will change come 2018.

The same architects that worked on The Burj Khalifa are now looking to trump it with a new project known as the “Jeddah Tower” in Saudi Arabia. When completed, the “Jeddah Tower” aka “Kingdom tower”, will be at least 3,280 feet tall. To put that into perspective, The Burj Khalifa stands at 2,716 feet tall.

And to put that into deeper perspective, this means that the “Jeddah Tower” will be the first tower in the world to reach a full kilometer.

Just in case you think that we’re making this up, The Guardian actually wrote about this earlier this year and this week, the Saudi government announced that USD2.2 billion in funding had been secured to build Jeddah City, including the tower.

Designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, construction up to the 26th floor of the “Jeddah Tower” has already been completed. When completed, the USD1.23 billion project will have 200 floors that will be used for offices, apartments, and a Four Seasons hotel. It will also overlook the Red Sea, which posed engineering challenges due to the nearby saltwater and high wind levels.

Watch the crazy video below and keep a lookout for the garden-skydeck-like thing:

Doesn’t it look like a needle piercing the Saudi Arabian sky? Would you go up there?
