It’s no secret that Jackie Chan prefers executing his own stunts whenever possible. However, the Hong Kong star might have bite off more than he can chew, when he almost drowned during the filming of his latest film, “Vanguard”.

According to China.org.cn, the incident happened during the filming of a jet ski scene, where the 65-year-old found himself being trapped under a rock. It was scary when the actor realised that he was unable to free himself and almost died. Thankfully, he was rescued shortly after.

Recollecting the incident at a recent press conference of the film in Beijing (on 18th December 2019), the legendary actor told reporters that he willed himself to remain calm, despite his dire situation. This has allowed him to keep on smiling when he was eventually pulled out of the waters, to comfort those on set that were in shocked by the incident.

One of them was the film director Stanley Tong. Tong revealed that he was on the shore when it happened, and was in a state of complete panic before he found out the “Rush Hour” actor made it back safely. He said, “I saw Jackie saved and when he emerged out of the water, I just could not hold back my tears.”

Rest assured that the danger of the situation was not lost on “The Foreigner” star, as he would later realised how lucky he was to have gotten out alive. “When I took a shower later that night and remembered the incident, I suddenly felt really scared and started shaking. I was thinking about how I could have so easily died,” Chan added.

Of course, this was not the first time the Hong Kong star had a brush with death. As aforementioned, he is known to rarely use a body double and CGI in any of his films. This meant that he usually carry out many dangerous stunts we see on screen, and he has the scars and bruises to prove it.

If you are really curious on how dangerous the scene was, then why not consider checking “Vanguard” when it opens in cinemas on 25th January 2020.
