It is said that romantic relationships are valuable for healing and learning to love. But what about those of us not in a romantic relationship? Could we still learn to love? Well, if iQiyi’s Sweet ON is anything to go by, we most certainly could by observing two quirky relationships.
The first is Patrick Shih and Amy Chen in “First Love Again” which features a relationship which crosses time and space. Meanwhile, “Crush” features Wan Peng falling in love at first sight with a dashing blind man played by Evan Lim. Though different, both relationships are testament that the moving courage to love remains just the same. So for all you singles out there, here are 5 lessons from these two couples that you could use to find your own true love!
1. The Anthem of Love
Every beautiful love has its own anthem. In “First Love Again”, Amy Chen’s favourite song – “Time Machine” by MayDay – becomes the important connection which spans across time with her in 2006 and Patrick Shih in 2019. No matter which universe they are in, they always find their way back to each other. Meanwhile, in “Crush”, Evan Lin composes touching songs under the pseudonym “Yijin” while Wan Peng recognised the deep emotion in them.
2. The Nearness of love
Amy Chen and Patrick Shih are high school classmates whose lives become intertwined with time travel. They are neighbours and deskmates. The aloof genius and the chirpy girl gradually grow fond of each other, and are by each other’s side in times of need. When Patrick Shih’s most beloved grandpa meets with an accident, Amy Chen saves him. They are there for each other at crucial moment and their love blossom. Meanwhile, Wan Peng and Evan Lin fall in love when they run into each other in an elevator, before being taught at a special school. The lesson here is not hard to learn – to love someone, you need to spend time with them. Is the right person for you near?
3. The Journey of love
It is important to create romantic and charming moments in our love journey! In “First Love Again”, Patrick Shih very charmingly applies medicine on Amy Chen’s wound when she hurts her leg. He checks up on her wound carefully the next day in school too, which makes Amy Chen fall in love with him. In “Crush”, Wan Peng takes good care of Evan Lin, a handsome blind man. She opens an umbrella for him in the rain, and their love blossoms while cuddling under the downpour…of romance.
4. Courage of Love
Love requires courage. You need to take your chances or you may miss your true love. The aloof genius Patrick Shih helps Amy Chen with her studies and buys her a MayDay concert ticket. Just when she is about to miss the concert, he rushes her to catch her idol, which leaves a great impression on her. Wan Peng also takes her chances at courting Evan Lin. When they are in a Ferris wheel together, she gets closer to him, pushing the boundaries on their relationship, as they grow more intimate.
5. Taste of Love
Love is always sweet. In “First Love Again”, when Patrick Shih has a balloon phobia attack, Amy Chen chooses to help him, although being angry with him at the time. She also gives him a candy to heal, which he puts in the pocket closest to his heart. In “Crush”, Evan Lin seems to be distant, but Wan Peng never ceases to take good care of him. She considers him her top priority and her tenderness eventually melts him.
