After his success in “BlacKkKlansman”, “Marriage Story”, and “The Last Duel”, Adam Driver returns for another action-packed flick, “65”. His ability to inject so much emotion into a scene is what makes all of his performances unique from each other. Though he only gained widespread popularity after being a part of the “Star Wars” sequel trilogy, Driver had been kicking around the acting scene since 2010.
With two new major projects set to be released in 2023 and 2024, Adam Driver has shown no signs of slowing down. Despite his busy schedule, we were able to have a chat with the star about his latest film, where he shared his thoughts on the production overall and working with his co-star.
1. What attracted you to this role and movie?
Dinosaurs. Dinosaurs were the big draw. laser guns, and that, it was like a big-scale movie, but it had a lot of room for nuanced characters with a nuanced story.
It was very much like a family movie. With a kind of father-daughter story in the centre of it. […] It’s really ambitious, and there was no precedent for it.
It was an original idea by these two guys. It’s not a sequel, prequel, or, you know, It was a combination of kinda great, weird elements together, which seemed to make it unique.
2. Was this any different from the other green-screen movies you had worked on?
No. I wasn’t really attacked in the other green-screen movies that I was a part of. So, there was a special feeling of having someone dressed as an all-green smurf attacking you with a tennis ball or a dinosaur head at the end of a stick going ‘arrr,’ you know? It’s a special kind of humiliation.
But it was fine and funny. There is a sequence in particular, which I won’t say which one it was, is really great.
3. What was your experience working with Ariana Greenblatt? How did y’all bond offset?
It was all fine. Actors who are available, especially younger actors, they’re less self-conscious in a way, you know?
They’re not thinking so much [about] where the shot is. Ariana has been on film sets, so she’s aware of that, but there’s a kind of openness to their acting where they’re just great listeners. There’s not really much to work on; they just kind of are great scene partners innately.
4. What were your favourite and least favourite scenes in the movie?
My favourite scene, without giving it away, is a part where he’s teaching her [how] to whistle. I say if you’ve seen the movie, I won’t explain it more than that. That was probably my favourite scene. [My] least favourite scene was maybe— yeah, I don’t know. It’s hard to pick a least favourite scene.
