Experiencing an earthquake can be scary for anyone, especially those who aren’t from a country where the tremors commonly happen. Recently, a 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck Southern California, shocking those in San Diego, Los Angeles, and the Coachella Valley.
If you were unaware, the iconic Coachella music festival just ended its first weekend for the 2025 edition. Many celebrities and influencers were in attendance, including Malaysian media personalities Jestinna Kuan, Chang Yong (蔡常勇) and Lizz Chloe (彤彤). As such, these three were in Southern California when the 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck on Monday morning (US time). Since quakes aren’t common in Malaysia, it’s no surprise these influencers were shocked.

According to China Press, the three content creators had to flee their hotel when the earthquake happened. Thankfully, Jestinna, Chang Yong and LizzChloe survived the quake, and they all later posted on Instagram Stories to share their experience. In her post, Jestinna said it was her third time experiencing an earthquake. As the tremors happened while she was asleep, the influencer said she woke up in a daze and evacuated the hotel in her pyjamas.
LizzChloe’s post came not too long after the earthquake happened. Through her Instagram Stories, the media personality shared a selfie of her and fellow influencer Shu Sen, showing their bewildered expressions after the incident. LizzChloe, who also goes by TongTong, wrote in her captions, “There was an earthquake just now. We didn’t dare to move away from the balcony.”.

In his post, Chang Yong said he was awakened by the earthquake, suggesting he was also asleep when the tremors began. He added that he thought of evacuating to the hotel lobby, but the shaking likely stopped before that. The influencer also said he’s worried about the aftershocks, which commonly follow the main quake days later. However, there is no news of any aftershocks as of writing.
Thankfully, there were no recorded casualties or damages caused by the recent earthquake. We’re glad all survived the tremors, but we hope everyone will remain vigilant for natural disasters.
