As people age, health problems become more common due to the natural ageing process and the wear and tear of bodily functions. Conditions such as arthritis, heart disease, diabetes, and cognitive decline become more prevalent, making it essential for older adults to pay extra attention to their health.
This week, the legendary veteran Indian actor Shivaji Rao Gaikwad (சிவாஜி ராவ் கெய்க்வாட்), known more familiarly as Rajinikanth (ரஜினிகாந்த்), was admitted to Apollo Hospitals, a private facility in Chennai, India, after reports of an illness. The 73-year-old actor, known for his enormous influence in India, underwent an elective cardiac procedure supervised by an interventional cardiologist on 1st October 2024 in the cardiac catheterisation lab.
According to Twitter, @ANI shared a press note from the hospital stating that he had swelling in the main blood vessel. A stent was successfully placed in the aorta to seal off the swelling. Before his hospital admission, the veteran actor had reportedly complained of stomach pain. Fortunately, his condition was reported to be stable.
This isn’t the first time the veteran star has major health scare. In late 2020, a similar health issue led the actor to abandon plans to start his long-awaited political career. He had announced the launch of his political party in December 2020, only to withdraw from the plan in the same month, citing health reasons and the pandemic.
Following the news of his hospitalisation, Indian netizens flooded social media with heartfelt messages, wishing his speedy recovery. Fans and well-wishers from across the country expressed their concern and love for the superstar, sharing prayers, get-well posters, and emotional tributes. Many took to Twitter and Instagram, using hashtags like #GetWellSoonThalaiva to show their support.
Recently, Rajinikanth attended the audio and preview launch of his upcoming film Vettaiyan (வேட்டையான்), directed by TJ Gnanavel (தி ஜே ஞானவேல்), which is slated for release on 10th October 2024. According to reports, the actor is expected to be discharged in two days. We hope he makes a full recovery and look forward to seeing him in more films in the future.
