#iBubbleWrap: The Bubble Wrap Makers Are Taking The “Pop!” Out & Ruining Our Lives

Like you, we have this ridiculous habit of and unexplainable love for popping bubble wrap.

But unfortunately, its makers are taking the fun and the “Pop!” out of the wrap 🙁

According to WSJ, Sealed Air Corp., the original seller of bubble wrap since 1960, is rolling out a revamped version of its signature product. Dubbed, “iBubble Wrap”, the new packaging is sold in flat plastic sheets that the shipper fills with air using a custom-made pump. The inflated bubbles look much like traditional Bubble Wrap, with one key difference: They don’t burst when pressure is applied. Dammit!

Why are they taking away our childish, mindless fun?

Our childish heaven. Our childish joy.

This.

Traditional bubble wrap ships in giant, pre-inflated rolls which takes up too much room in delivery trucks and warehouse floors. Hence, the company believes that this new “pop”-less bubble wrap will appeal to space-conscious online retailers.

One roll of the new iBubble Wrap uses roughly one-fiftieth as much space before it’s inflated. It arrives deflated and customers doing the packing inflate it on-site. The bubbles are no longer individual, and instead each row of them is actually one long, connected chamber of air. Therefore, no bubbles to pop 🙁

Is anyone else irrationally upset by this? We definitely are. To pacify ourselves, we’ll just have to pop bubble wrap virtually here or listen to Hyuna’s “Bubble Pop” song (completely unrelated, by the way) on repeat. Sob.
