In life, you win some, you lose some. You can do everything by the book and still not succeed and sometimes it has nothing to do with how good or bad you are. Things just happen and sometimes they are necessary so we can process and learn from them to improve ourselves.

We often see athletes being either victorious during matches or coming within a hair’s breadth of winning. While it’s disheartening to see them on the losing end, it’s always inspiring whenever we see them get back on their feet to show the world what they’re really capable of. Here’s what Soh Wooi Yik (苏伟译) has to say about his recent match.

Malaysian Badminton player Soh Wooi Yik and his partner Aaron Chia (谢定峰) recently competed in the BWF World Tour Finals in Bangkok where unfortunately the national men’s doubles team did not come back victorious. The duo exited the group stage without winning a single match much to their and fans’ disappointment.

After the frustrating loss, the 24-year-old took to his official Facebook page to let out his thoughts and vowed to rise even higher after the disappointing end of the year. In a lengthy post, the shuttler said, “My journey and my dream have not ended yet. Obviously, it wasn’t a good ending for us for the last journey of the year 2022 and I apologise to anyone who was affected (because) we couldn’t reach the huge expectation.”

Although he felt down after the recent match, the Malaysian athlete ended the post with some encouraging and inspiring words and thanked everyone for their support. “I always aim to make you all proud as Malaysian. No matter how hard it is, I will always try to do my best and keep reminding myself that I can do it! And I will! I’m thankful for all of you that never gave up on me. It means a lot to me. I WILL MAKE OUR OWN HISTORY,” he said.

Fans and even former badminton player Koo Kien Keat (古健杰) showed nothing but love for Soh Wooi Yik and Aaron Chia and left supporting comments wishing the two the best of luck for their upcoming matches in 2023. May the national men’s doubles duo bring home victory!
