It’s normal to find someone you know on dating apps. However, it can be quite shocking to find family members on same-sex hookup apps, especially if you are unaware about their sexual identity.
Twitter user @/meinmokhtar or Mein posted an anonymous submission by a netizen via NGL on Twitter. The netizen, presumably male, appeared to be in distress as he revealed that he stumbled upon his uncle’s profile on the gay dating/hookup app, Grindr.
Rather than giving a solution, Mein reckoned that the uncle might be just as shocked if he were to find his nephew’s profile as well and joked that it will be interesting to see the two queer men reunite during the holidays. “Next Raya is going to be ‘exciting’ for you,” he wrote. Many join in, saying that the two could have a scandalous relationship if they’re each other’s type.
One was more concerned if the uncle is married and urged the anonymous individual to tell his uncle’s wife the truth about his “secret lifestyle”. This is not the first time such instances. Just last week, a woman discovered that her own father had been having affairs with other men after looking through his WhatsApp messages.
While it’s not exactly the same situation, a few years ago, actress Sharifah Sakinah confirmed her divorce after her then-husband was discovered on Tinder while they were still married. There was also a viral thread back in 2018 where a woman discovered that her husband had been sleeping with other men after noticing a Grindr notification on his phone.
Over the years, there have been similar stories of people seeing someone they know on the gay dating app, as seen in the screenshots above. Going back to the first anonymous post, there has been no update on what the netizen plans to do after finding out the truth about his uncle.
Whatever it is, we hope that they don’t end up doing something extremely inappropriate together. Perhaps, some things are better left unsaid.
