It’s the end of an event-filled week and the start of another. As per usual, we try to wrap up some of what we think are the top happenings/news from our week here at Hype Malaysia. Here goes:
1. YG’s New Korean-Chinese Boy Group To Debut Under Yuehua Entertainment
Trust YG Entertainment, home to massive K-Pop idol groups such as BIGBANG and 2NE1 to dish out another surprise so soon after their official announcement for iKON. The entertainment powerhouse confirmed that they’re debuting new Korean-Chinese boy group UNIQ, that was trained under their company, in China, under Yuehua Entertainment. We foresee exciting time ahead!
No news about what’s happening with YG Entertainment’s rumoured new idol girl group that’s tentatively named “Pink Punk” yet though.
2. Apple To Launch New iPads + New OS In October
Hot on their heels after announcing the iPhones and the Apple Watch and releasing the new iOS8, the tech company has scheduled a few more announcements for next month. Apparently, Apple is set to launch 2 new iPads and the next version of its Mac operating system, OS X Yosemite, at its next event! This would officially mark the 6th generation of their iPad and the 3rd edition of the iPad mini.
The iPad is expected to have a 9.7in screen, while the new version of the iPad mini will have a 7.9in screen. Talk about not giving fans time to breathe!
3. DJs/Producers Stafford Brothers Say Hello At Capricorn KL’s Launch
Capricorn Kuala Lumpur, the latest addition to Kuala Lumpur’s already busy and happening nightlife, officially opened its doors to Malaysians. Located along swanky Jalan Kia Peng, the launch was anchored by none other than Australia’s #1 DJs the Stafford Brothers.
We were lucky enough to have scored an exclusive interview with the duo in which they talked about their craziest fans moments where girls take their tops off and what they’d most likely choose to give up if they had to pick between hearing or sex. True story!
4. South Korean Heartthrob Kim Hyun Joong’s Ex-Girlfriend Drops Assault Charges
Kim Hyun Joong’s ex-girlfriend, who had previously alleged that they had been dating for 2 years, and that he hit her on multiple occasions between May and July this year, has dropped the assault charges she filed against him last month, police confirmed on Wednesday (17th September). According to the Korean media reports, she does not want any further action to be taken.
Of course, this is only coming after Kim Hyun Joong apologised to her in person and issued a public apology to her on his official website following what was assumed to be a time of reflection.
5. Fault In Submarine Cable Causes Internet Slowdown For Streamyx/Unifi Users
This is important on a local front so in case you missed it, according to Telekom Malaysia (TM), a fault on the Asia America Gateway (AAG) submarine cable system is causing data degradation. The fault affects data traffic to and from the US and this means that virtually all Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in Malaysia will face a similar issue – though TM (Streamyx, Unifi) is the only ISP to have confirmed the issue.
Restoration works for submarine cable is expected to begin on 1st Oct (Wednesday) and completed on 6th Oct (Monday). However, the restoration works will be subject to sea conditions, the identification of the actual location of the fault, and the challenges presented working at great sea depths and pressure.
Additional: Huffington Post (both US and UK) have come under scrutiny for publishing articles that made some false claims about the Malaysia Airlines Flight #MH370 and Flight #MH17 tragedies. The news portal was slammed by Malaysian Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman (who said that he was disappointed that Huffington Post UK had deemed fit to publish unproven claims) as well as angered both Malaysian and non Malaysian netizens.
Phew. That was some week! We wonder what the coming week has in store for us.
