“IT’S ALIVE!”
While James McAvoy isn’t busy playing the younger Professor X in the “X-Men” film series, he becomes obsessed with creating life out of death through his new film role as Victor Frankenstein.
Based on Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel “Frankenstein”, the rebooted horror classic is directed by Paul McGuigan (of “Lucky Number Slevin” fame) and produced by John Davis. Max Landis, who penned 2012’s “Chronicle” and the upcoming “American Ultra” movie, wrote the screenplay for this film.
Frankenstein is typically depicted as a mad scientist with white hair while Igor is merely a tragic humpbacked assistant who lives to serve his master’s zombie-like monster. But in this new reboot, we see a dynamic and slick twist on the legendary tale. Frankenstein is portrayed as a charming yet slightly egomaniac medical student who tries to make history with his creation. Igor himself is a charming man as well, but in this film, we take a look at his dark origins and his redemptive friendship with Frankenstein.
Daniel Radcliffe plays Frankenstein’s assistant Igor and becomes the eyewitness of the emergence of how his master became the mad scientist who created the legendary monster we know today.
The official synopsis is as follows:
Radical scientist Victor Frankenstein (McAvoy) and his equally brilliant protégé Igor Strausman (Radcliffe) share a noble vision of aiding humanity through their groundbreaking research into immortality. But Victor’s experiments go too far, and his obsession has horrifying consequences. Only Igor can bring his friend back from the brink of madness and save him from his monstrous creation.
“Victor Frankenstein” also stars Jessica Brown Findlay, Freddie Fox, as well as “Sherlock” alumni Andrew Scott and Mark Gatiss.
