Woah, we certainly weren’t expecting a new single from Katy Perry.

The 31-year-old singer has maintained a relatively low profile in recent months and without prior warning, has just released a brand new inspirational anthem in the form of “Rise”, much to the delight of KatyCats all around the world.

The empowerment single will tie in with NBC’s 2016 Rio Olympics. “This is a song that’s been brewing inside me for years, that has finally come to the surface. I was inspired to finish it now, rather than save it for my next album, because now more than ever, there is a need for our world to unite. I know that together we can rise above the fear – in our country, and around the world,” the pop diva said in a statement.

“I can’t think of a better example than the Olympic athletes, as they gather in Rio with their strength and fearlessness, to remind us how we ALL can come together, with the resolve to be the best we can be. I hope this song can inspire us to heal, unite, and rise together. I am honoured that NBC Olympics has chosen to use it as an anthem before and during the Rio Games,” she added.

Staying true to the Olympics theme, the singer can be seen rising up from a pool of water for the single’s artwork. Despite it being a mid-tempo burner, “Rise” beautifully fuses Perry’s souring vocals with the heavy electronic beats. It’s intense and inspiring – exactly what fans love about this superstar.

No word yet if “Rise” will included in Perry’s upcoming fourth studio album.

Katy Perry is ready to fight back!

After debuting the Olympics-themed music video showing footage of athletes participating in past Olympics games, the pop star has finally released a video that’s all her own. In the MV, Perry can be seen battling with a parachute. Next, we see her trying to take flight, but nature won’t play along.

More mishaps ensue as she falls off a cliff in one scene and drowns in the ocean in another. But like the preserving warrior that she is, Perry faces her challenges head on and ultimately comes out on top! The concept is straight-forward and the execution is flawless.
