Hype’s Must Watch: Jungle

Inspired by true events, “Harry Potter” actor Daniel Radcliffe stars in Greg McLean’s (of “The Belko Experiment” fame) upcoming survivor thriller “Jungle”.

Written by Justin Monjo, the movie is largely based on Yossi Ghinsberg’s critically-acclaimed memoir titled “Jungle: A Harrowing True Story of Survival” (2015).

Radcliffe plays Ghinsberg in the film, an Israeli backpacker who survived 3 weeks alone in the Amazon when the adventure of a lifetime went horribly wrong.

The synopsis is as follows:

“In the early 1980s, 22-year-old Israeli backpacker Yossi Ghinsberg and 2 friends – Swiss teacher Marcus Stamm (played by Joel Jackson) and American photographer Kevin Gale (played by Alex Russell) – set off from the Bolivian city of La Paz on what was supposed to be the adventure of a lifetime. Leading the way into the uncharted Amazon was an Austrian expat named Karl Ruprechter (played by Thomas Kretschmann), who had met the friends just days before and claimed to be familiar with the region. But their dream trip soon turned into a wilderness nightmare from which not all of the men returned.”

The trailer (above) starts off with a monologue by a young Ghinsberg about exploring the world. He says, “I wanted to experience the extraordinary.” After that, Ruprechter approaches him and his friends to persuade them to explore an uncharted jungle. The promo clip also features several gruesome (and disturbing) scenes.

“Jungle” is expected to reach cinemas sometime this year.
