“Based on the true story of one movie so bad, it became infamous.”

The first trailer of “The Disaster Artist” is out and it is comedy gold. Starring and directed by James Franco, the film depicts the meeting and early friendship of the actor Greg Sestero and Tommy Wiseau – the actor, writer and director behind the 2003 cult film “The Room”.

Just in case you didn’t know, “The Room” is often hailed as the “Citizen Kane” of bad movies. The film follows a love triangle among an amiable banker named Johnny (played by Wiseau), his deceptive fiancée Lisa (played by Juliette Danielle), and his conflicted best friend Mark (played by Sestero). It also features a series of unrelated subplots.

“The Disaster Artist” is inspired by Tom Bissell and Sestero’s non-fiction book of the same name. The film stars Seth Rogen, Josh Hutcherson, Zac Efron, Hannibal Buress, Melanie Griffith, Sharon Stone, and Jacki Weaver. Moreover, celebrity cameos include Bryan Cranston, J. J. Abrams, Lizzy Caplan, Kristen Bell, Keegan-Michael Key, and Wiseau himself.

The trailer (above) shows James Franco struggling to remember his lines. When he finally got it in the end, the team rejoices and Dave Franco is seen giving his brother a hug.

“I did not hit her, it’s not true, it’s bullshit. I did not hit her, I did naaaht. Oh, hi Mark,” he says in the clip.

We’ll leave you now with the original performance by Wiseau:
