No stranger to the local music industry, Russell Curtis is a recording artiste who spends most of his time performing for events. Having been in the industry for quite some time now, Russell has performed in places like Singapore, Manila, London, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Las Vegas.

2008 proved to be a fantastic year for his musical journey as his debut single “Funky Freak” received the nomination for best rock song at the VIMA Awards. Russell was also nominated for best soul rock vocalist and won the award for best rock group the same year.

Currently the ambassador for The Guitar Store and Godin Guitars, Russell has recently released his album entitled the Russell Curtis Project. Taking us back to the good ol’ days of good groovy music, Russell Curtis Project features six original tracks, each with it’s own character but the tracks are arranged in a way that one flows on to the other so smoothly, making the whole album a perfect round up of good music.

The album opens with “Close To You” — a number that has a perfect amount of funkiness to it. Featuring a great driving beat, “Close To You” makes for the perfect opener because it is upbeat, funky and catchy. From the drumbeats to the guitar riffs and to Russell’s melodic voice, the arrangement for “Close To You” will make you want to grab the person you love to dance along to it.

Slowing things down a little with track number 4 — “Sayang”, is a track that would make for the perfect dedication of love from a man to a woman. Apart from the beautiful lyrics, “Sayang” features melodies that could live and go on forever. Now if you’re looking for a love song to dedicated to your sweetheart, this is definitely one you should consider.

To sum it up, there is a variety of sound that blends so perfectly with one another on the album. Yes, it is a short album but it’s an album that you can listen to over and over again without ever getting bored of it. We would rate the Russell Curtis Project a 7/10. *Two thumbs up!*
