Are you trying to be stylish but environmentally conscious at the same time? Are you conscious whether the brands you are wearing and buying are contributing to the destruction of mother nature?

Well, now with UNIQLO, you don’t have to worry anymore! Being an environmentally friendly brand, they strive to be better for both humans and nature each and every day.

Their main focus here is to be good to the environment, and with that in mind, they have been trying to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from their stores and office by switching to renewable energy. So far, they have succeeded in reducing 50% of carbon emission from electricity and is expected to be totally free from it by next year. Not only that, but LED lights have also replaced the normal ones in all of their stores to reduce light pollution.

Not just light pollution that they are trying to steer clear of, but they contribute to the protection of biodiversity with WWF Malaysia as well. You name it — the local marine conservation, beach clean-up projects, and even forest conservation too! UNIQLO is giving it all to give back to mother nature.

If there’s one thing that UNIQLO is famous for, it’s the usage of recycled materials since 2019. Since they have started this practice, they are always trying to move closer to their goal of producing zero waste. So, by 2030, they expect to use approximately 50% of recycled materials in their products.

In addition to the zero waste goal effort, you can drop your pre-loved UNIQLO clothes off at the clothing collection box that is available in every store to not only be donated to the needy, but also to be recycled. Yes! They will recycle your clothes into other materials like furniture. They also encourage you to not throw away your damaged clothes, as they provide repair services to extend and sustain the lifecycle of the clothes.

Not only will you be helping and giving back to the environment when you shop at UNIQLO, you can also help UNIQLO give back to society. If you aren’t aware, UNIQLO has been collaborating with several NGOs in Malaysia to promote social contribution. Some of the communities that are involved are the victims of the recent flash flood, autistic community, the homeless and B40s, females facing period poverty, heart surgery patients, disabled people (PWD), and they also provide Covid-19 relief. UNIQLO has also given PWD a career chance, and now, they make up to 2% of UNIQLO workforce.

Holding on to the belief of everything starts from the classroom, UNIQLO has been conducting workshops and giving educations to school students on sustainability. Furthermore, UNIQLO Malaysia works directly with universities and learning institutes to involve students with volunteering and entrepreneurship training programs.

So, let’s start being comfortably stylish while giving back to both the environment and society with UNIQLO Malaysia!
