Being married in this economy is tough if you aren’t financially stable, especially with living costs rising every year. It’s getting harder and harder for young couples to tie the knot because of this, and some people have even spoken up about being married whilst being in a rocky state of your career is inadvisable.

A Johorean man, Yan Mable, shared his honest opinion on how much someone should make in order to live comfortably. He also mentioned that the man should be the breadwinner of the family, and make at least RM15k a month. He stated that “A real man should have a provider mindset” and pay for everything, including his wife’s wants and needs.

“RM600 was enough for a family a long time ago, now RM6000 is only enough for one person” Yan added. Although he wasn’t entirely wrong, his calculations were a bit extravagant. Living comfortably doesn’t necessarily mean having the latest gadgets, or going to the spa once a week. It means always having enough of your needs and bits of your wants.

The local man’s calculations add up to almost RM24k, and netizens criticised his estimate. A few agreed that without the money, you won’t be happy. Others thought it was a bit harsh to tell youngsters to not fall in love and waste a woman’s time without a stable income.

In this modern era, love isn’t enough to tie a marriage forever but, we also think that the husband shouldn’t be the only person who carries this burden in a household. What do you think about this?
