Hong Kong actor Dayo Wong (黃子華) has often sparked interest with his love life. Still, he’s known to be secretive about his relationships. Recently, a photo of a mystery woman hugging him during his birthday prompted rumours of a new romance.
Earlier this week, Dayo had an early celebration for his 65th birthday with close celebrity friends, including actress Carina Lau (劉嘉玲). When the actress shared a photo from the gathering on her Instagram, all eyes were on the woman beside Dayo. In the picture, the young woman was hugging the actor from behind, with her head pressed on his shoulder. Dayo also seemed comfortable with the affection, sparking rumours that the two were an item.

However, Dayo has since denied the rumours and clarified his relationship with the mystery woman. As it turns out, the woman is a co-star from one of the actor’s past stage plays. Dayo explained through a Facebook post dated 3rd September 2025 (Wednesday), “The person in the photo is my good friend Wong Cheng Yan (transliteration from 黃呈欣). Over 10 years ago, she played my daughter in the stage play, “The Real Thing (咁愛咁做)”.”
The actor said that the two grew close through the stage play and developed a father-daughter-like relationship. Since then, Dayo and Wong Cheng Yan would hug each other every time they met. Since the last time the two met was about five years ago, and it was “The Last Dance” star’s birthday, Dayo quipped that Wong Cheng Yan is more “mischievous”, which explained the hug.

In the comments, fans thanked Dayo for explaining the situation. While some noted that he could just let the issue fade away, many appreciated his clarification about his relationship with Wong Cheng Yan. Others also said they weren’t concerned about his love life and would support him as long as he’s happy. At the same time, some also wished him a happy birthday and hoped he had a joyous celebration.
While he wasn’t obligated to, we also appreciate Dayo’s clear explanation of his relationship with Wong Cheng Yan. What are your thoughts on this?
